Loyal Apple customer bases waited for stores
A study by Experian Simmons demonstrates that customers in several of the USA's ten most Apple-loyal regions waited 5 years or more for an Apple Store to open. The study ranked US cities by the number of adults who own (at least) one iPod, iPhone or Mac. It shouldn't shock you that San Francisco/San Jose area of California ranked highest (32.3 percent of adults met their criteria), while Boston, San Diego, New York City, Chicago, Denver and Las Vegas were also among the top ten.
DC, the study points out, is still without a store, despite 30.1 percent of its residents meeting Experian's criteria. Boston's Boylston Street store only opened within the past few years, and other high-ranking cities (Baltimore, Md. at #13, Charlottesville, Virg. at #16 and Boise, Idaho at #25) are still waiting.
Of course, some of these cities have stores in the suburbs. The Cambridgeside Apple Store, reachable from Boston by the subway, was one of the very first stores to open. Other stores like Braintree and Peabody are arguably within driving distance of Boston.
Likewise, Apple Store Bethesda Row and Apple Store Montgomery Mall are in the greater DC metro area.

The post also omits the Chestnut Hill store, which is less than half a mile over the Boston city line.

Apple won't get a dime of my money until that changes.

What you might want to consider is driving south on I-95 to the Christiana Mall so you can buy your Macs tax-free in DE. That's why the DE store has one of the highest sales-to-floor space ratios of any Apple Store--it draws tax-free shoppers from four states.

Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane all have stores but Perth (the next smallest city) does not.
Ouch. That mens you're, what, 4000km from the nearest store? I think that easily trumps ANYONE else who has posted so far. :-)

When I first moved here from New Orleans (unintentionally and unexpectedly, thanks to Hurricane Katrina), there was already an Apple Store planned for an upscale shopping development in West Little Rock. There were none known to be planned for Louisiana or Mississippi.
(Nearly) Five years later, Louisiana has two (Metairie, just outside of New Orleans; and Baton Rouge, in the general vicinity of LSU) and Mississippi has one (Jackson). I applaud Apple's investment into the region after the storms.
However, the planned store here in Little Rock has never come to pass. I keep watching the development, which seems to have stalled. There are a number of shopping centers in the area, only a few arguably worthy of an Apple Store.
I'll keep shopping Apple online, of course, and other outlets (Amazon, mostly) when I want Apple products. But, damn, I sure would like access to a full-fledged store with a Genius Bar.
Well, there is the Best Buy at Chenal and Bowman that has a mini store, but it would be nice to have the Apple Store in the Promenade at Chenal as originally planned.
Or you can drive to the stores Memphis, Tulsa, Dallas, St. Louis and the other two states you mentioned that SURROUND Arkansas, just not IN Arkansas.....
Have been to the Mini Store @ that Best Buy. It's decent, not great; but I agree, at least it's something.
I had hoped that the Shakleford Crossing development might attract Apple, but it doesn't look like it.
Closest true Apple Store (in Germantown outside of Memphis) is still a 3-hour drive one way. Plano & Dallas are, what, about 5 or 6 hours one way.
cambridge is not a 'suburb' of boston. braintree yes
I am still waiting very impatiently for one in/near New Haven, CT! It's a 45 minute drive in any of 3 directions to get to an Apple Store from here!
I'd like to work in one, too!
"I'd like to work in one too!"
You'd like to take a pay cut? Anyone halfway decent technically can make notably more money in corporate or even consulting on their own. There's a reason Apple Stores are staffed by youth--anyone older with experience on their resume won't work for what the Apple Store pays.
I'm confused; I don't see where the study shows that "loyal Apple customer bases waited for stores"...the linked page states, "In this issue of Consumer Insights, Experian Simmons answers the question: Which markets are the biggest users of Apple products?"
I don't see anything about how customers waited for Apple stores. Couldn't you say that about any store that hasn't opened anywhere?
As a Colorado Western Slope resident, I have learned to order online. My nearest is the pinkie-chopping Park Meadows Apple store, 290 miles, one-way.
Yet, I had my iPad delivered before 10am on April 3rd, free shipping!!!
Kansas still doesn't have an Apple Store, while some *cities* have several.

The location is a block or two north of M Street on Wisconsin Avenue. I rode the bus that way a couple of weeks ago and the scaffolding was in place, so it looks like something is actually happening.

Boise wants an Apple Store!
Please! We support Urban Outfitters, The North Face, Anthropologie, and several other upscale clothing chain stores. Seems like Apple would fit right in to that upscale market. We have a large independent shop (MacLife) with two locations and the BestBuy store-within-a-store, but Apple-run stores are a step above. Please!
